Australian Paralympic alpine skier Mitch Gourley has won his first ever gold medal on the World Cup stage, taking out the top prize in the giant slalom at the IPC World Cup overnight.

Gourley, who competes in the men’s standing class, produced two outstanding runs to finish with a time of 2:03.15, just 0.43 of a second in front of Frenchman Vincent Gauthier-Manuel, who claimed silver.

Australia’s Mitch Gourley has again impressed on the world alpine skiing stage, securing his third bronze medal for the season at the IPC World Cup in La Molina, Spain overnight.

Making his first ever World Cup podium for standing slalom, the 20-year-old crossed the line in  1:42.82 and was able to secure his place on the podium after coming close on Tuesday with the fourth fastest time in race one.

Construction on the Australian Paralympic Committee’s new Victorian headquarters commenced today at the first turning of the sod at Essendon Football Club’s new high performance centre at Melbourne Airport.

Dual world champion Kelly Cartwright has set a new 200m world record, becoming the fourth Paralympian to do so on the track and field since October.

Paralympic sailors Daniel Fitzgibbon and Liesl Tesch have picked up Australia’s first medal at the ISAF Sailing World Cup round in Miami, Florida, winning Gold in the Skud 18 class.
