Paige Greco will forever be remembered as Australian Paralympian No. 1070, a Paralympic gold medallist and a great ambassador for the Paralympic Movement in Australia.
Paige’s crowning moment was at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where she won Australia’s first gold medal of the Games, in the women’s 3000m individual pursuit C1-3 event, breaking her own world record in the process to win in a time of 3:50.815.
She went on to claim another two medals at Tokyo, bronze in the women’s road time trial C1-3, raced in challenging conditions at a rain-soaked Fuji Speedway, and bronze in the women’s road race C1-3, which was determined in a bunch sprint.
Paige narrowly missed selection for Paris 2024, little over a year after she sustained serious injuries in a crash while competing at a Road World Cup event in Italy.
At the Road World Championships in 2025 she won bronze in the women’s road race C3 and placed fifth in the women’s time trial C3.
The Australian Paralympic community was devastated when Paige passed away after a medical episode at her home in Adelaide in November 2025. She was aged just 28.
Paige is celebrated not only for her sporting success, but also for her humility, generosity and positivity. She inspired countless people with her courage and determination.
Paige, who had cerebral palsy affecting the right side of her body, started her sporting career in Para-athletics. She later burst onto the Para-cycling scene with three world records in two days at the 2019 Track World Championships, where she won two gold medals and a silver. The following year she added another World Championship gold medal, winning the women’s 3000m individual pursuit C1-3.
Her opening day success at Tokyo 2020 lifted the entire Australian Paralympic Team, which went on to win 80 medals, including 21 gold, to finish sixth on the overall medal tally and eighth on the gold medal count.
