After making his Paralympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, where he won a silver medal in the men’s high jump F44/46 and a bronze medal in the men’s 4x100m T42-46, it was eight years before Aaron saw the inside of a Paralympic stadium again.
From the moment he first cleared the bar in Rio, it was obvious Aaron’s return from retirement was one of the best decisions he had ever made. Just two centimetres shy of the gold medallist, Roderick Townsend-Roberts (USA), and his own lifetime best, Aaron soared to 1.99 metres to win the bronze medal in the men’s high jump T47. Incredibly, he had spent the previous three months on the sidelines healing a dislocated ankle.
However, fifth place 13 years after first representing Australia speaks to Aaron’s incredible athleticism, and this, combined with a long history of success in Paralympic competition, positions him perfectly ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Outside of Para athletics, Aaron enjoys fishing, slacklining and hiking.
