Angie Ballard
Quick Facts
Bio
Angie Ballard is a world class competitor with vast experience and a super coach in her mentor Louise Sauvage. Having already competed at three Paralympic Games, Angie entered London 2012 armed with a wealth of understanding of what it takes to succeed at the Games.
Angie had her most successful Paralympics ever in London, winning two silver medals in the 200m and 400m as well as a bronze in the 100m. She puts her success down to major upheaval in her training regime that saw her get faster and faster in the years preceding the Games.
Angie decided to pursue wheelchair racing following a car accident in 1989 which left her paralysed. Her first competitive race was in 1994 and four years later she was representing Australia at the World Athletics Championships in England. She competed at her first Paralympic Games in Sydney 2000 and later followed it up with a bronze medal in the 100m in Athens in 2004. In between Paralympics, she also won gold in the 100m at the 2002 World Championships.
When she isn’t training, Angie is either studying for her psychology honours degree at the University of Sydney or playing with her two cats and dog (Monkee, Jaguar and Angel). She also has a passion for music, cooking and travelling the world and is an avid reader, particularly of the fantasy, sci-fi and horror genres.
Once her decorated athletics career winds down, Angie looks forward to pursuing a career in psychology and giving her body a well-deserved rest.
