Callum’s Story

Callum Simpson was born with microdeletion syndrome – a genetic disorder which causes a severe learning delay and physical flow on effects – which caused his left and right side not to work in unison, as well as dyslexia.

To strengthen his body, doctors urged his parents to get him into swimming, and now he is achieving things some never thought possible.

Sport runs through the Simpson blood, his father played for and captained the English Rugby 7s team before Callum was born and his brother Henry has represented Australia in Surf Life Saving.

Callum says it’s his dream to not only represent Australia at the Paralympics but to inspire others with a disability, reminding them that anything is possible if you don’t give up.

The Queenslander swims under two-time Olympian Chris Wright in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast.
