Paralympics Australia’s preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Games have received a substantial boost with the Queensland Government pledging support for the establishment of a new Paralympic branch office in the Host City.

The announcement was made by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk as part of the Queensland State Budget presented to parliament this week.

PA’s Brisbane office will complement established bases in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and will provide a critical hub as the focus on Brisbane increases over the coming years.

“Paralympics Australia is one of the key delivery partners for Brisbane 2032, so it makes sense for us to have a solid base in Queensland,” Paralympics Australia Chief Executive Catherine Clark said.

“We are experiencing increased demands for PA staff to be involved on committees, in meetings with stakeholders and contributing to projects and consultations around 2032. The support of the Queensland Government allows us to build a home in Brisbane without diverting critical resources from other areas of our operations.”

Palaszczuk said the Brisbane 2032 Games was already driving unparalleled co-operation and investment by all levels of government and the private sector.

“When we talk about the Legacy of 2032, the one word that keeps coming up is ‘inclusive’,” Palaszczuk said.

“The community wants our games to be the most inclusive games ever held. This decision is another step closer to that goal.

“I look forward to working closely with Paralympians, Olympians – and our whole community – as we make 2032 the start of Queensland’s golden age.”

Clark said the investment required was modest compared to the advantages it will deliver.

“This is a significant step in building the capacity and sustainability of the Paralympic Movement in Australia,” Clark said.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Premier’s Office and the Department of Public Works for their assistance. This will have a profoundly positive impact on our organisation and our Movement.”
