NAB RunWest participants have the opportunity to fundraise for feature charity Paralympics Australia which helps Australians with disabilities engage in sport and compete at the Paralympic Games.

The recently renamed body is not only responsible for preparing and delivering Australian Teams to the Paralympic Games, but plays a broader role in promoting the value of diversity, equity and inclusion by informing and empowering all Australians.

“We’re very grateful to be a chosen charity for NAB RunWest. It is a true reflection of the growing appreciation of Para-sport and the growing place of Australia Paralympians in the hearts and minds of all Australians,” said Paralympics Australia Chief Executive Lynne Anderson.

“Our challenge now is to secure the required funds to prepare our Australian Team for Tokyo 2020 and to make sure we continue to build the sporting pathways for people with impairments from community level through to the elite.

“To do this, we need your help.  With less than two years to go until the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, you can choose to donate to Paralympics Australia via the NAB RunWest website and help some of Western Sydney’s top athletes with disabilities achieve their sporting dreams.”

“We are extremely excited to have Paralympics Australia on board as charity partner for the inaugural event. Having their support will help us ensure that NAB RunWest provides an unforgettable and inclusive experience for any individual who wishes to par-take, as well as provide positive social and physical benefits to people with disabilities in Western Sydney” said Athletics Australia Chief Executive Darren Gocher.

Paralympics Australia is responsible for preparing the Australian Paralympic Summer and Winter Teams for the Paralympic Games. At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Australia placed fifth on the gold medal tally with 22 gold, 30 silver and 29 bronze medals out of 159 countries.

Working with National Federation partners, the organisation also helps identify potential Paralympians and assists athletes to prepare for competition by providing funding for coaching, equipment and travel in the lead up to the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games.

Partnerships with governments, business, national sporting organisations and disability groups are critical to delivering a successful Paralympic Team to the Games.

“We have resolutely and successfully established Paralympic sport as a unique and popular component of the Australian sporting landscape,” Lynne Anderson said.

“Ultimately, participation in sport plays an important role in changing community perceptions of people with disabilities.”
