The reality of competing at the Paris Paralympic Games next year came a step closer for long-list athletes who attended Paralympics Australia’s Team Processing sessions at Allianz Stadium in Sydney this week.

Team Processing is where athletes nominated by their sports as having potential to qualify for Paris receive briefings about the Games, get outfitted for competition and ceremonial wear and complete biography and media information.

It’s also a chance for corporate partners to get a unique insight into Australia’s top Para-athletes and for the athletes to better understand the depth of backing they have as they chase their goals.

The Sydney sessions were the fourth instalment in Paralympics Australia’s nationwide Team Processing tour, after Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne during February. The events move to Canberra and Brisbane this month.

“It’s such a privilege to be able to give Australia’s elite Para-athletes a sense that their hard work is moving them in the right direction,” Australian Paralympic Team Chef de Mission Kate McLoughlin said.

“Not everyone will make it to Paris 2024, but a Games campaign is made up of many contributors in and out of the sporting arena, all of whom play an important role.”

McLoughlin said the practical element of Team Processing was ensuring the different requirements of Para-athletes – for instance around outfitting, mobility or diet – can be met.

“This is Paralympics Australia’s chance to gather information so we can give all our athletes everything they need to be able to compete at their very best when they compete at the Paralympic Games,” she said.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have access to wonderful venues to host these sessions, but it was extra special for our Sydney events to take place at the incredible new Allianz Stadium.

“Allianz has been a partner of Paralympics Australia since 2011 and we’re extremely grateful for their enduring and wide-ranging support.”
