Queensland will host the 2027 World Archery Para Championships on the Gold Coast from 30 August to 6 September 2027, adding another major international sporting event to the Green and Gold pathway.
In a landmark achievement for Australian sport, the championships will be held in the country for the first time, another demonstration of the pull-power of being a future Paralympic host.
The championships will bring the world’s elite para-archers to the Gold Coast Performance Centre at Runaway Bay to compete for world titles and valuable qualification opportunities on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
Supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland, the event is the pinnacle international competition for Para archers apart from the Paralympic Games and is organised under the governance of World Archery.
The championships were secured by Archery Australia following a competitive international bidding process, further reinforcing Queensland’s growing reputation as a host of world-class sporting events.

Over the seven days of competition, some 300 athletes from 50 countries will contest world championship honours across recurve and compound, in the open, W1 and visually impaired categories, with the event serving as a qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. The event will be showcased worldwide via World Archery’s broadcast partners and digital platforms.
Para archery is at the heart of the Paralympic Movement, having been used as a rehabilitation exercise for injured veterans in the 1940s, inspiring the creation of the predecessor Stoke Mandeville Games in 1948, and the first Paralympic Games in 1960.
The championships will mark the first time Queensland has hosted Para archery at an international level, adding to the state’s growing portfolio of international sporting events in the lead-up to Brisbane 2032.
Tourism and Acting Sport Minister Andrew Powell said the World Archery Para Championships would put Queensland in the international spotlight and reinforce our reputation as a premier destination for major sporting events.
“Securing this event is another example of how the momentum towards Brisbane 2032 is helping Queensland attract prestigious global championships that may otherwise never have come to Australia,” Minister Powell said.
“Fans will have the opportunity to witness the world’s leading para-archers competing for world titles and crucial Paralympic qualification places, creating an unforgettable sporting spectacle on the Gold Coast.”

Archery Australia CEO Peter Bromley said securing the championships was a major milestone for the sport.
“Winning the right to host the 2027 World Archery Para Championships in the Gold Coast is a significant achievement for Archery in Australia and a testament to Queensland’s reputation as a world-class host of international sporting events,” Mr Bromley said.

World Archery President Greg Easton said the championships would be an important moment for para archery internationally.
“We are excited to be bringing the World Archery Para Championships to Australia for the first time.
As the qualification event for LA28, a home championship with a home crowd and big team will allow us to establish our position as front and centre at LA 28 before continuing this momentum and continue to grow into Brisbane 2032.
Queensland has the experience and ambition to deliver an outstanding event, showcase our sport to new audiences, and build momentum towards LA28 and Brisbane 2032.”
Para archer Tom Holland is excited for the event as part of the build up to the 2032 Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
“I believe the event will provide a great foundation for para archery in Australia,” Mr Holland said.
“As the qualification event for LA28, a home championship with a home crowd and big team will allow us to establish our position as front and centre at LA 28 before continuing this momentum and continue to grow into Brisbane 2032.”
