Paralympics Australia’s 2024 Paralympian of the Year, Lauren Parker, is among eleven athletes who have been selected to represent Australia at the 2025 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Ronse, Belgium, from August 28 to 31.
Parker, who won gold in the road race H1-4 at the Paris Paralympics and the time trial H-3 at the 2023 World Championships, is in fine form this season having started with a win in the time trial H3, bronze in the road race H3 and silver in the mixed H team relay with Grant Allen and Alex Welsh at the opening World Cup round in Belgium in May.
Allen and Welsh are included in the team, as are Paralympic gold medallists Emily Petricola, Darren Hicks and Paige Greco, who made a successful return to the team at the World Cup event, winning bronze in the C3 time trial.
Petricola, the Paris gold medallist in the 3000m pursuit C4, returns to the green and gold for the first time in 2025, while Hicks and fellow Paralympic medallist Meg Lemon will look to back up their medal-winning time trial performances in May.
After picking up two bronze medals on the road at the Paris Paralympics, Alana Forster is continuing to cement her position as one of the top C5 riders in the world.
Forster won C5 time trial silver at World Cup events and bronze in the C5 road race in Belgium.
Tahlia Clayton-Goodie returns to the squad in top form after clinching two World Cup gold medals in the C1 road race and time trial in Belgium. Kaitlyn Schurmann is also back in the squad after winning two C1 silver medals in Belgium.
Emma Mickle will compete in her second world championships representing the national team, after delivering consistent international results, including a fourth in the C3 time trial and sixth in the C3 road race at the Belgian World Cup.
Allen and Welsh round out the team for the World Championships. Both had top 10 finishes in their World Cup time trial races in May. As well as racing in the time trial and road race, they will combine again with Parker for the mixed H team relay.
Tara Neyland (nationally classified C4) has been selected as a travelling reserve.
The 2025 Para-Cycling Road World Cup will be held in Ronse, Belgium from August 28-31.
