Paralympic gold medallist Alexa Leary has teamed with the famous Miami Fish Market on the Gold Coast to help Para-athletes achieve their dream of representing Australia.

As part of Paralympics Australia’s End of Financial Year Appeal, Miami Fish Market is pledging to donate 10 percent of all sales of selected seafood products throughout June.

The Fish Market’s support will go towards Paralympics Australia programs that create opportunities for Para-athletes nationwide to achieve their best.

In a story in the Gold Coast Bulletin newspaper announcing the partnership, Leary said: “Paralympics Australia has been right behind me on my swimming journey, providing support to compete at a high level and connected me with other Para-athletes, who inspire and push me to improve every day.

“It’s been a dream come true and I want to make sure the next generation of Paralympians can follow their dreams as well.”

Leary burst onto the scene at the 2023 World Championships and, little over a year later, won two gold medals and a silver medal at the Paris Paralympic Games, including the 100 metres freestyle S9, which she won in world record time.

In the Bulletin story, Paralympics Australia Chief Executive Cameron Murray said few people realised Paralympics Australia was a charity.

“While we do receive support from the government and corporate partners, we rely on fundraising and donations from the community to enable us to create more opportunities for Australia’s Para-athletes.

“We’re working across the Australian sport system to identify more potential athletes with disability and to provide access to classification, training and development.”

The owners of Miami Fish Market, Paul and Fallon Gloftis, said donations could also be made in store and online.

“Were so keen to get behind Alexa and help her and her teammates compete at the Paralympics.”
