Paralympics Australia joins the international sporting community in considering the merits of ongoing participation of delegations from Russia and Belarus, including at the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games.

We support the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in strongly condemning the actions taken by the Russian government in Ukraine. We stand united with the athletes and the other members of the Paralympic Family in Ukraine who have been impacted by these devastating events.

The IPC has authority over the conduct of the Paralympic Games, including decisions over athlete participation. We note the IPC Governing Board meets on Wednesday 2nd March and we note also the paramount role the IPC Code of Ethics will have in deliberations.

Paralympics Australia empathises with the athletes and officials who will be adversely affected, regardless of the outcome of the IPC deliberations. But we cannot ignore the humanitarian crisis before us. We oppose these hostilities and join the growing number of sporting institutions from across the globe, including within the Paralympic Family, who are calling for an immediate ban on Russian and Belarussian participation at all sporting events, including the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games.
