Paralympics Australia would like to thank Tasmania’s Premier Will Hodgman MP and the Minister for Sport and Recreation Jacquie Petrusma MP for the Tasmanian Government’s funding support of the 2020 Australian Paralympic Team.
The Tasmanian Government has provided $30,000 towards the appeal in 2018-19 – an increase from the funding provided for the previous Paralympic cycle.
Paralympics Australia Chief Executive Officer Lynne Anderson said: “The Tasmanian Government has always been a great supporter of our organisation and Tasmanian Para-athletes. This funding will greatly assist with the Games planning, preparation and support for the Team while in Tokyo.
“Tasmania can be rightly proud of their Para-athletes. Four Tasmanian athletes competed in the 2016 Paralympic Games, with Matt Bugg and Deon Kenzie winning silver medals and Todd Hodgetts winning a bronze medal. We hope to see more Tassie athletes on the podium come Tokyo next year,” Anderson said.
The Tasmanian Government also provides support to Para-athletes through the Tasmanian Institute of Sport scholarship program, as well as financial support to each athlete competing at the Paralympic Games.
“Australian sport is at its best when its key players are working together and we look forward to the Tasmanian Government’s ongoing engagement and support,” Anderson said.
