Daniel Fox SilverAustralia’s Para-sport athletes continue to pull their weight when it comes to helping Australia stay on top of the medal tally at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

After eight days of competition, Australia’s Para-athletes have won five gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, to keep Australia on top of the unofficial Para-sport medal tally.

The gold medal haul continued overnight, with four-time Paralympian Angie Ballard surging to victory in the women’s T54 1500m final.

Just minutes later, her team-mate Kurt Fearnley added to Australia’s tally when he claimed silver in the men’s T54 1500m final behind defending Paralympic champion, England’s David Weir.

With four Powerlifting events left to contest for athletes with a disability at the Glasgow Games, Australia (5 gold, 7 silver, 7 bronze)  currently holds a commanding lead on the total medal tally Para-sports and sits second behind England (6 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze) on gold medals won.
