Rising track and road star David Nicholas has had the best possible start to his international career. Not only did he win gold and beat the reigning world record holder at his first world track event in the 3km individual pursuit, he won silver in the 1km time trial then blitzed the field at the London Paralympic Games to collect two more medals.

Having just missed out on a medal on the track, David dominated on the road in London, winning gold in the individual time trial and bronze in the road race.

Born with cerebral palsy, David trains with his father in North Queensland. He began making a name for himself in Australian cycling circles following road race victories in 2009, 2010 and 2011, before he proved he had the talent to compete internationally at the 2011 Road World Championships.

Away from the strain of competition and training, David relaxes by surfing the internet and listening to music. He enjoys watching TV, particularly American comedy How I Met Your Mother. David lists Italy as his favourite holiday spot and appears destined to see much more of the world courtesy of his fast developing cycling career. The multi-talented Queenslander has already completed his IT studies at TAFE and currently works in IT support.

David looks up to Australian cycling champions Cadel Evans, Stuart O’Grady and Robbie McEwen and hopes he can follow in their footsteps. He also dabbles in karate but has currently stopped his training to focus on cycling after he dislocated his knee twice and was in recovery for six months.
