The PyeongChang Organising Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG), together with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) today announced the ticket prices for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, which are set to go on sale in South Korea on August 21.
The Paralympic Winter Games will be held from March 9 to 18 next year and will welcome more than 650 athletes across six disciplines including an Australian contingent of 10-12 athletes taking on the world’s best in Para-alpine skiing and Para-snowboard.
Tickets will range from 19 AUD for Para-alpine skiing, Para-biathlon and the wheelchair curling preliminaries, through to 165 AUD for the top seating category at the Opening Ceremony, set to take place at the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium.
All ticket holders will enjoy complimentary access to the Games’ public transport system, as well as a feast of cultural activities and performances in the Olympic Plaza and around the Olympic Park precinct on the day of their visit.
Importantly, the athletes’ world-class performances will help to redefine attitudes towards disability, and particularly disability in sport, in South Korea.
“The Paralympic Winter Games are an extremely important part of PyeongChang 2018 and its overall success. We want to ensure that tickets for the Games from March 9-18 are affordable and available to as many people as possible so that the venues can be full of passionate and excited fans who will enjoy this experience, and who will help cheer these amazing athletes onto glory,” said POCOG President LEE Hee-beom.
“The Paralympic Winter Games are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Korean people to see the world’s best Paralympians in action. The high-performance sport will act as a catalyst to social inclusion in Korea,” continued IPC President Sir Philip Craven.
“Tickets, which go on sale on 21 August, are great value-for-money and I am confident that those who attend the Games will, at first, be surprised by what they see. They’ll then be inspired by the outstanding performances of the Paralympians and excited for what the human body can achieve. The Games are not to be missed!”
Coinciding with the 200-days-to-go mark on August 21, South Korean residents will be able to purchase tickets from the official PyeongChang 2018 ticketing website (https://tickets.pyeongchang2018.com/). International spectators will then be able to buy their tickets to the Games from the designated Authorised Ticket Resellers in their country of residence, with more information to become available on the official website.
From November, tickets will also be available for purchase across South Korea at main airports, high-speed railway train stations, Seoul City Hall, Gangwon Provincial Office, Gangneung City Hall, and other government organisations.
The first Paralympic Winter Games were held in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden in 1976 and were last staged in Sochi, Russia in 2014, where it attracted a cumulative global TV audience of 2.1 billion people.
