Back To NewsAustralian athletes Luke Cain and Natalie Smith have won Gold and Silver medals respectively overnight at the second day of the 2016 IPC Shooting World Cup in Szczecin, Poland.
Cain came first in the R4 10m Air Rifle Standing Mixed SH2 with 211.6, narrowly ahead of New Zealander Michael Johnson on 211.5.
“I’m very happy with my first World Cup Gold. It was a battle until very last shot against some of the best shooters in the world,” said Cain immediately after his win. “Now I’m looking forward to final preparation for Rio and this Gold will definitely help to me get ready for the big one!”
Natalie Smith came close to a Gold of her own in a hard-fought battle against Veronika Vadovicova of the Slovak Republic, losing by 2.9 to take Silver in the final of the R2 10m Air Rifle Standing Women SH1.
Fellow Australian athletes Libby Kosmala and Bradley Mark also delivered strong performances, Kosmala finishing sixth in the R2 10m Air Rifle Standing Women SH1 and Mark just missing the final of the R4 10m Air Rifle Standing Mixed SH2 to finish 11th.
