Australian Paralympic legend Kurt Fearnley has finished second in the Chicago Marathon’s wheelchair category for the second straight year.

As in 2016, the 37-year-old five-time winner beat all but Switzerland’s Marcel Hug home, finishing with a time of 1 hour, 30 minutes and 24 seconds.

Fearnley has never finished lower than second in Chicago, recording five wins and tworunner-up finishes before Sunday’s result.

Fellow Australian Madison de Rozario finished fourth in the women’s wheelchair race, setting a huge personal best time of 1:39.22.

Both performances show the depth of Australia’s marathon talent leading into the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
