Sport runs through the veins of Nicholas Hum.

Following in the footsteps of his athlete father, Nicholas began competing in Para-athletics in 2008. He had been encouraged to attend a couple of training sessions by Olympian Max Binnington to test out his fast-twitch muscles, and with that kind of backing, it was a no-brainer for the young Victorian.

Three years later, Nicholas was given the honour of wearing the Australian green and gold for the first time at the 2011 International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand. This was doubly special for Nicholas, who celebrated his 18th birthday on the second last day of competition.

Another two World Championships campaigns followed in 2013 and 2015, so by the time the Paralympic Games rolled around in September 2016, Nicholas was primed and ready to make his Paralympic debut. He did not disappoint, placing fifth in the men’s long …
