A number of Mob Members, with the support of the APC, have recently discussed the idea of establishing an ‘Australian Paralympic Committee Athletes’ Commission’ (Commission).
The purpose of the Commission is to represent the views of Paralympic athletes to the APC. The precise roles and responsibilities of the Commission will be established at the first Commission meeting, but may include things like: making recommendations to the APC on athlete-related matters, having one member sitting as an observer in APC Executive meetings and providing feedback to the Commission, reviewing APC policies and directives, and providing feedback to the APC regarding athlete concerns. Commission members will essentially be liaisons between the athletes and the APC.
At this stage we are calling for nominees to the Commission. We hope to have a fully elected Commission in the next 4 years, however to get things started, co-captains Danni Di Toro and Kurt Fearnley will be appointing up to 11 Paralympians (minimum of 8/maximum of 9 Summer and minimum of 2/maximum of 3 Winter athletes) to the Commission. Nominees must be Paralympic athletes. Of the 11 appointed positions, up to 3 athletes may be filled by retired athletes and the remaining 9 must be currently competing athletes. There will be no more than 1 male and 1 female athlete appointment from each sport and the gender split of the Commission will be not less than 4 male and not less than 4 female Summer athletes and not less than 1 male and not less than 1 female Winter athlete. When considering which athlete to nominate, please consider those athletes that display strong leadership qualities and a willingness to make the time commitment to attend up to four meetings per year.
Please complete the Nomination Form below and email it to Danni and Kurt at firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com. The deadline for nominations is 5pm (Sydney time) on Wednesday, 12 April 2017. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
