Wheelchair Basketball Classification
What are the classifications?
Classes 1.0 – 4.5 points: There are eight classifications for athletes with a physical disability that are based upon their functional ability to play wheelchair basketball (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 points). Players have impairments such as spinal cord or nerve damage, limb loss or limb deficiency (above or below knee), cerebral palsy or other similar disabilities. 1.0 point players have greater difficulty in performing basketball skills such as shooting, passing, pushing and rebounding than 4.5 point players.
Classification is based upon sport-specific tests of shooting, passing, rebounding, pushing and dribbling.
