Bio

As a child, Victoria ‘Tori’ Pendergast was on a family holiday at the snow when Disabled Wintersports Australia spotted her on the slopes. Having opened her and her family’s eyes to the world of Paralympic ski racing, Tori attended a number of camps with the APC development squad and in 2010 made her competitive debut at the New Zealand Winter Games.

Born missing the lower part of her spine, Tori is suited to sit-skiing and embraced the idea of hurtling down a mountain at top speed in a custom built sled. Leading into her debut Games in Sochi, she won a silver and bronze medal in the slalom and super-G at the 2013 North America Cup as well as a bronze medal in the giant slalom at the 2013 IPC World Cup in Thredbo. Then in Sochi, Tori finished the slalom and giant slalom in seventh and tenth place respectively and was one of the few sit-skiers to complete the courses, which both saw some spectacular high speed crashes.

Tori’s life is firmly focused on skiing and when she’s not training, she loves to free ski. She admires some of the top sit-skiers in the world including Americans Alana Nichols and Laura Stevens. As the first Australian woman to compete in a sit-ski at the Paralympic Winter Games, Tori has committed to making a second Paralympic Games and hopes more women with an impairment will be inspired to do the same.

Away from skiing, Tori also enjoys kayaking as well as catching up with her friends and enjoying good food. She has recently graduated with a degree in business and marketing and would like to one day work for a large and well-known brand.

On the slopes though, her ultimate goal is to win a Paralympic medal or win the World Cup Globe title and she continues to train in the northern hemisphere to reach her goal.
