Bio

Troy Sachs, OAM, ASM is one of the greats of Australian Paralympic basketball. He first represented Australia at the Paralympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 at the age of 16. In 1996, he was a gold medallist in Atlanta, where his 42 point score in the final earned him a world record. He also received an award from the Australian Paralympic Committee for the Most Outstanding Individual Performance at the Games.

In 1997, Troy turned professional and has since played as a starter for the Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks in the American League, Tabu Cantu in the Italian National League and RSC Rollis Zwickau in the German National League. Troy also continued to play in the Australian League, captaining the West Sydney Razorbacks in multiple successful seasons, and was named MVP every year between 1997 and 2001. In each of these leagues, Troy has consistently been named in the All Star Five and received awards as highest point scorer.

In both 1997 and 1999, Troy was a finalist in the Young Australian of the Year Award. In 1997, he received an Order of Australia Medal for Excellence and Service to wheelchair basketball. An experienced public speaker, Troy was an ambassador for the National Australia Day Council in 1999 and also made the Cosmopolitan list of the Most Successful Men under 30.

At the Athens Games, Troy captained the Rollers to a silver medal. In 2008, after a 12 year gold medal drought, Troy finally bookended his career with another gold medal at the Beijing Games.
