Quick Facts
Bio
A member of the Australian wheelchair rugby squad, Scott Vitale’s ability to overcome obstacles is a testament to his ‘never give up’ attitude to life.
In 2001, Scott broke his neck during a motorbike accident and as a result became a quadriplegic. When in hospital undergoing rehabilitation, Scott was shown a wheelchair rugby demonstration. Immediately drawn to the sport’s hard hitting nature, he began playing ‘murderball’ in December 2002. Less than one year later, he was selected to represent Australia at the Oceania Zonal Championships in Japan.
Aside from wheelchair rugby, Scott loves to party and go fast in his ute. He also has an off road buggy which he drives on his parents property and is often accompanied by fellow team member Ryley Batt on his four wheeler.
Scott is known to many for his resolve, dedication and commitment; qualities that saw him reclaim his life after his accident. His speed and agility on the court have made him an extremely valuable member of the Australian wheelchair rugby team.
He loves going out with his friends, riding his buggy and jet ski and going fast in cars and takes the same adrenaline rush into a game of rugby.
Making the gold medal game and knowing the team had already secured a silver medal was a stand out moment for Scott at the Beijing Paralympics and he cannot wait to compete in London for the gold.
