Bio

Katy’s favourite quote is “it’s all good” and she lives by it, taking every opportunity put in front of her and achieving to the best of her ability.

Born into a family of three active boys, it was shortly after she started crawling that Katy’s family realised she had cerebral palsy. Although mild, it affects the left side of her body in the leg and lower arm.

With her determination and the support of her family and friends, there has not been much that Katy has not attempted and succeeded at, from riding motor bikes to knee boarding and playing other competitive sports at school such as netball, touch football and water polo.

In early 2006, Katy was invited to a talent search day in Adelaide by Paralympian Katrina Webb Denis and was identified as having potential in athletics targeted at London 2012.

However, Katy proved she was ready for Beijing and competed at her first Paralympic Games, four years premature to when she was due to debut. She made the finals for both her events and finished fifth in the 200m and eighth in the 100m. The Beijing Games were the best experience of Katy’s life and there was no greater moment than walking out and competing in front of a full stadium of cheering spectators.

Katy now trains with Paralympic gold medallist Tim Matthews in Melbourne and is determined to make the Australian Paralympic Team bound for London. She warmed up for London 2012 with one gold and two silver medals at the 2011 Arafura Games.
