Bio

Daniel Fox has been building impressively towards his first tilt at the Paralympic Games in London 2012. A man with sport in his blood, the freestyle expert has form on his side.

Daniel was in scintillating touch throughout 2011, winning four gold medals at the Arafura Games before dominating the field at the Can AM Championships in California, where he won three gold and one bronze medal. This followed his standout performances at the 2011 National Championships where he medalled six times and the Para Pan-Pacs where he won three gold. He is now ranked number two in the world for the 200m freestyle event and is right on track for success at London 2012.

Daniel, who has an intellectual disability, took to the water as a toddler and began competing when he was 13 years old. Representing Australia at the 2009 Global Games, where we won three gold and two silver and winning a silver medal at the 2010 World Championships in the 200m freestyle are the proudest moments in Daniel’s burgeoning international career.

A Queenslander through and through, Daniel is based at the Chandler Swimming Centre in Brisbane. He supports the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL and looks up to Queensland rugby league legend Gordon Tallis for his never-say-die attitude and commitment to his sport.

With Australian swimming greats Ian Thorpe and Ashley Callus as inspiration, “Foxy” is hoping he can follow in his heroes’ footsteps to become Australian swimming royalty. He has set his aspirations high, aiming for a gold medal and world record in London.
