Bio

Since first competing in swimming in 2009, Daniel Fox trained quietly away, hoping he would make it to the London Paralympic Games.

After an explosive start to his career where he won three gold medals at the 2009 Global Games for athletes with an intellectual disability, he focused his sights on getting to London and soon, the hours in the pool and in the gym began to pay off. The freestyle expert was named on the 2010 World Championship team where he won a silver medal in the 200m freestyle and then represented Australia at the 2011 Arafura Games where he won four gold medals, the CanAm Championships where he won three gold and a bronze medal and the Para-Pan Pacs where he won three gold medals.

With a smaller field of events in London, Daniel shone in his best event and won silver in the 200m freestyle and finished fourth in the 100m backstroke.

Born with an intellectual disability, the Queenslander began swimming as a toddler and is now based at the Chandler Swimming Centre in Brisbane. He supports the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL and looks up to Queensland rugby league legend Gordon Tallis for his never-say-die attitude and commitment to his sport.

With Australian swimming greats Ian Thorpe and Ashley Callus as inspiration, “Foxy” is hoping he can follow in his heroes’ footsteps to become Australian swimming royalty. He has set his aspirations high, aiming for a gold medal and world record at a future Games.
