Overview:

On 6 July 2005, at the 117th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Singapore, London (Great Britain) was elected to be the host city of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Following four rounds of voting by IOC members, London eventually triumphed by taking 54 votes from a possible 104. Candidate cities competing for the right to host the 2012 Games were Paris (France), New York (USA), Moscow (Russia), London (Great Britain) and Madrid (Spain)*.

The purpose of London 2012 is to deliver accessible and inclusive designs for all facilities, maximize media coverage and strengthen the Paralympic Movement. The Olympic and Paralympic Games are the pinnacle of every athlete’s career. London 2012 will strive to provide conditions that enable the athletes to compete in an environment of excellence, friendship and enjoyment.

The Australian Team:

The Australian Paralympic Committee is preparing to deliver an Australian Team to the 2012 London Paralympic Games of approximately 165 athletes and 140 officials (total Team size of 305). This will be the largest Team Australia has ever sent to an away Paralympic Games.

The Australian Paralympic Committee has confirmed RM Williams as the Formal Wear designer and supplier and 2XU as the casual and competition wear supplier for the 2012 Australian Team. In addition, Speedo has been confirmed as the supplier for the Australian Swimming Team, Scody the supplier for the Australian Cycling Team and SLAM as the supplier for the Australian Sailing Team. ASICS will also provide footwear to the Team

Supporting the Team:

The APC has appointed General Travel Group (GTG) as the official Australian travel agent for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. GTG have established the Paralympics Australia Travel Office.
