Arafura Games and Oceania Paralympic Championships

The Arafura Games is a week long multi-sport competition held every two years in Darwin.  The Games, which will be held from 7-14th May 2011, is a major sporting event hosted and managed by the Northern Territory Government.

The Arafura Games targets developing athletes across the Asia Pacific region and beyond.  In 2011, the competition will consist of 20 sports and for the third time, incorporate the Oceania Paralympic Championships which are open to eligible athletes with physical, visual and intellectual disabilities. Athletes must have a valid classification to compete.

Four Paralympic sports will be contested:

Paralympic events and able-bodied events are integrated into the one competition providing a unique and diverse sporting environment. The Oceania Paralympic Championships is open to all countries of the world.

With sporting events being held at various sporting venues around Darwin, the Mararra Sporting Complex will continue to remain the central point of the Arafura Games. With the Arafura Games growing in reputation, it is anticipated that over 30 countries will participate in the Games in 2011.
